What does OREB mean in basketball?

A board taken off your own team’s miss. It does not end the possession, it buys a fresh one, which makes an offensive rebound worth roughly what a steal is worth.

A teammate misses a three, you tip it back in: one OREB and two points for you, and two second-chance points for the team.
What it leaves out
Crashing the glass commits bodies, and a miss on the crash is the other team’s fast break. A high offensive rebound rate is not automatically good; read it next to the fast-break points you gave up.
