What does BPM mean in basketball?

A box-score estimate of how many points per 100 possessions a player adds over a league-average player. Zero is average. It usually splits into an offensive OBPM and a defensive DBPM.

Plus two is a solid starter, plus five is All-Star level and anything past plus eight is the MVP conversation.
What it leaves out
The defensive half has only steals, blocks and rebounds to work from, and those three miss most of what defense is. DBPM is meaningfully less trustworthy than OBPM.
