How it is worked out
(PTS + FGM + FTM − FGA − FTA + DREB + 0.5 × OREB + AST + STL + 0.5 × BLK − PF − TOV) ÷ (GmPTS + GmFGM + GmFTM − GmFGA − GmFTA + GmDREB + 0.5 × GmOREB + GmAST + GmSTL + 0.5 × GmBLK − GmPF − GmTOV)
The Gm prefix means the total for every player in the game — the numerator’s expression summed across all of them.
Worked through
Ten players are on court, so 10% is average. Eighteen per cent is already the best player on the team.
What it leaves out
Like PER it cannot see off-ball defense or the space a shooter’s gravity creates, so the players who contribute most in those two ways come out low.

One term down, the whole sheet to go
The numbers on a sheet lean on each other. How many free throws appear depends on the team foul count; how many rebounds exist depends on how both teams shot. Reading a whole game means reading them together.
