What does WS mean in basketball?

The team’s wins for a season, divided among its players by estimated contribution. Everyone’s win shares add up to roughly the number of games the team actually won.

On a fifty-win team the best player usually lands between 10 and 14. WS/48 is the same thing per 48 minutes, where the league average is about 0.100.
What it leaves out
Because it apportions team success back to individuals, players on good teams gain and players on bad teams lose. Compare across teams with care.
